S. nigra
Stunning deciduous shrub with purple-black leaves. Lovely little lacy pink lemon-scented flowers bloom in Summer, followed by small delicious black berries. Make sure to cook the ripe berries prior to eating. Also known as the Elderberry.

Position: Full Sun

Preferred Soil Type: Any, Well Drained. We recommend using Grow Better Premium Potting Mix if potted.

Landscape Uses: Fragrant Garden, Edible Garden, Low Water Garden, Mediterranean Garden, Courtyard, Feature Plant, Hedging, Container / Pot, Attracting Bees

Ongoing Care: Water regularly. Prune back in autumn once flowering has ended. Liquid feed. Mulch. Slow-release fertiliser annually or as needed. We recommend Campbells Rustica Plus Fertiliser.
