Colocasia

Colocasia is a genus in the family Araceae. These flowering plants are native to southeastern Asia and the Indian subcontinent. Some species are widely cultivated and naturalized in other tropical and subtropical regions. Commonly known as elephant ears, there are two types: alocasias and colocasias. Colocasias display their leaves with tip of the heart pointing down and prefer full sun and consistent moisture. Alocasias, on the other hand, hold the tip of their leaves out or upward and prefer more well drained soil and a little shade.
