Caltha palustris
Marsh Marigold

Herbaceous perennial with dark green kidney-shaped leaves and daisy like bright yellow flowers blooming from mid Spring to early Summer. Cook and pickle the flower buds in vinegar as a caper substitute. Native to North America, the leaves are poisonous if eaten raw, but boiling will remove toxins to use as a herb.

Mature Height: 30-60cm
Mature Width: 30-60cm

Position: Full Sun / Part Shade

Water Zone: 2 (for pond edges or bog areas) & 3 (0-20cm plant depth)

Preferred Soil Type: Loam. We recommend using Grow Better Premium Potting Mix if potted. If adding plants to a pond that contains fish, we recommend using garden soil or potting mix with no added fertilisers. Then add a layer of pebbles to keep the soil from washing away.

Landscape Uses: Bog Garden, Mass Planting, Edible Garden, Low Water Garden, Courtyard, Container / Pot, Attracts Butterflies

Ongoing Care: Keep moist, particularly in dry periods. Liquid feed and mulch if in garden or pot. Slow-release fertiliser annually or as needed. We recommend Campbells Rustica Plus Fertiliser. Fertilisers not generally needed if plant is in a pond that contains live fish.

Decorative Planter Pots & Baskets shown in some photos with plants are not included in price but can be purchased separately.

Photos of plants shown on our website are a good representation of the actual plant for sale. Sometimes the actual plant for sale is shown, however, as we have hundreds of plants for sale, this is not always possible. Plants are living things, so the appearance of the plant on our website may differ slightly to the one you purchase. Every plant is unique, and their growth is seasonal.
